Job Description

We are looking for a warm, hands-on leader to run our shop at The Tannery in Woolston. If you love good bread, great coffee and people who care about what they do, then we knead to hear from you!

  • Permanent, full-time leadership role (35+ hours per week)
  • Rostered shifts across 7 days, between 6.30am and 4.30pm
  • You set the roster, so you can shape a schedule that works for you and your team

About The Tannery

The Tannery in Woolston is the beating heart of Bellbird. Our production team bakes on site, so you get to see where the magic happens every day and build real relationships with the people making what you sell.

The Tannery is in an exciting growth phase, with a refreshed coffee offering on the way. We want a leader who is keen to put their stamp on it: growing our regulars, lifting the coffee side of the business and showing off what our bakers do best.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Leading from the floor: serving customers, making coffees and showing what great Bellbird hospitality looks like
  • Supporting, training and developing your team, and making sure they have everything they need to succeed
  • Opening and running a smooth, safe and spotless shop, including food safety and health and safety
  • Keeping our displays looking beautiful and our bread and pastry orders spot on, so we sell more and waste less
  • Watching your sales, spotting opportunities and bringing new products to life with your team
  • Owning your site’s rostering, labour, wastage and sales, with support from our Retail Manager
  • Working alongside our other Site Managers, our Production and Wholesale teams and the Retail Manager, including a monthly Site Leads catch-up

Qualifications & Experience

If you’ve run a busy café or bakery, or had success in retail as a second-in-charge, this could be the next layer in your career.

  • You genuinely enjoy people: regulars, first-timers, your team and the bakers out back
  • You have solid coffee skills, a real passion for delicious baked goods, and ideas for growing a coffee offering
  • You lead by example and take pride in quality and consistency
  • You have an eye for detail and can juggle a busy morning without losing your smile
  • Rostering experience would be a bonus
  • You are happy with an early alarm!

What makes Bellbird great

We’re a Canterbury bakery that cares a lot about good food, done properly, and about the people behind it. Quality isn’t negotiable, and we want leaders who feel the same. Excellence, sustainability and social responsibility are at the heart of how we work, from how we treat our customers to how we look after each other.

  • Day-time hours with no late nights
  • Free bread and pastries, and generous staff discounts
  • A friendly, inclusive team and a supportive workplace
  • Training and support, with knowledgeable colleagues to learn from
  • Room to grow with a business that is growing too
